Replacing windows with HEAVY METAL

Today was the day to get the windows back in the bus, because tomorrow it starts monsooning. I got out the long level and square, sharpie and measuring tape, and marked up the exact size of the window space needing to be filled. 4 windows in total: one behind the wood stove, one behind the fridge, and two behind closets.
I used the good ol' angle grinder (easily my favorite tool thus far) to slice through the sheet metal like butter. I just re-used the sheet metal that I took off of the ceiling. It feels like the gauge may be too small, but I'm gonna go for it anyway for weather/time's sake. It will be reinforced with spray foam and interior walls anyway. MEH!
Then, I went to the Home Depot (I usually go to Midland, a little Ma and Pa shop, because I like to support local, but they didn't have what I needed there when I checked before). I went there to get some TEK screws to fasten the newly cut metal sheets in place of the windows. I found them, but I wanted to ask an associate if they were the right ones anyway, and if they would work well on the exterior of a vehicle. He said, yup, those are the ones. Then I asked, will they rust? And he said, oh ya, those will rust for sure, they are only plated steel. ... ??? ... So yet again, it's really important to DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH and ask the right questions, because you can't just rely on advice at the store. If I didn't ask the right questions, I'd be back and forth from the hardware a million wasted times, or I'd be using the wrong product for my project.
This cost me the rest of the day, and so I did not get the sheets in... I'm crossing my fingers that the rain holds off until the afternoon.
